One Euro is worth 110,265 Cape Verdian escudos. ATM cards are not accepted in Cape Verde. Only VISA or Mastercard credit cards are accepted.

The area code for calling Uk from Cape Verde: 00 44. The area code for calling Irland from Cape Verde: 00 353. In bars and commercial premises, it is possible to find many public telephones, but they are not very economical. It is therefore advisable to buy a prepaid SIM card from CVTelecom for your own mobile phone.

HEALTH

Hospitals are located in Praia (Santiago) and in Mindelo (S. Vincent).
On all other Cape Verde islands, there is an outpatients’ clinic and good health care coverage.
No vaccinations are required for visiting the islands of Cape Verde because there are no contagious or endemic diseases.
Only tourists coming from Fortaleza in Brazil are obliged to show their international vaccination certificate for yellow fever.

The most common means of transport used amongst the inhabitants is the "aluguer”, an economical collective taxi that collects passenger along the way.

BETWEEN THE ISLANDS

Those who wish to visit more than one island of the Cape Verde archipelago can travel by either sea or air.

  • PLANE: all the islands of Cape Verde, with the exception of Brava, have an airport for domestic flights that generally do not last more than one hour.
  • FERRY: when navigating conditions allow, travelling by ferry is definitely the cheapest, but certainly the least comfortable
